Spruce-Pine-Fir 2x6 lumber is a combination of lightweight softwoods that offer high-fiber strength, easy workability, and nail-holding sturdiness. With small knots and light coloring, SPF 2x6 lumber is ideal for interior building. However, it can also be painted for outdoor uses. The wood typically exhibits a pale creamy white to light yellowish brown color, complemented by a straight grain and a relatively fine, uniform texture that responds very well to standard woodworking machinery and fasteners. During cutting or machining, it releases a mild, clean, resinous aroma. While kiln drying significantly improves its dimensional stability, untreated SPF lumber possesses low natural resistance to decay and insects, so appropriate protective finishes or treatments are recommended for moisture prone environments.
